MATH PROBLEM SOLVING - LEVEL 3
A year-long program for middle school students in grades 6/7
Starting September 2023
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The goal of this program is to provide a strong foundation for the students to be able to excel in math in their schools and national competitions such as CEMC Gauss, Canadian National Math League (CNML), and Mathematica Contest, and equivalent US national contests. This program is designed for middle school students. We highly recommend that middle school students start at this level if they don't have significant experience in competitive math. Although this program is focused on strengthening the core concepts, it provides enough challenges for students to prepare for more advanced contests. Middle school core concepts are covered in a lot of depth and assignments are based on questions from various international contests. Students are expected to do 2-4 hours of weekly assignments.
- Strengthen Core Concept
- Become a problem solver by learning to connect the dots
- Enable critical thinking through challenging problems
- Train to be competitive by practicing global competition tests
- Prepare for advanced high school programs e.g. IB, AP, Sci-Tech, S-SAT
- Opportunities to participate in national and international competitions
We will only take 15-20 students in the course and many spots are already filled. Hurry up if you would like to be a part of one of the best programs in Canada. You may review the achievements of our students in the school year 2021-2022. Roughly 90% of our students performed well above the Canadian average in all competitions and won many national and international awards.
INCLUDED COMPETITIONS
Competitive Kids STEM indicates our intention to prepare students for the contests. Considering this, we are making it mandatory for our students to participate in math competitions. To simplify the process, we will cover the cost of the following contests for all our students as long as these contests are available online.
- Global Math Olympiads
- American Math Olympiad (AMO)
- Singapore & Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO)
- Canadian Math Summer Contest (CMSC) - 2 rounds
- Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary & Middle Schools (MOEMS) - 5 Tests spread over the course
- National Math Contests
- Canadian Mathematical Gray Jay Competition (CMGC)
- Canadian National Math League (CNML)
- Mathematica Contest or equivalent contest
- Computing Contests
- Beavers Computing Contest (BCC)
- Canadian Innovation Computing Contest
We are not limited to these contests. We will provide additional opportunities for the students to participate in the contests. High-performing students will be selected for the team contests such as Berkely Mini Math Tournament, Purple Comet etc.
