Introduction to Problem Solving
Complete Math Curriculum
Recommended for Students in Grade 2
Mapped To Common Core Standards
This math curriculum is designed in a way that we wish we had when we were kids. It teaches kids how to think critically and understand the concepts behind the math calculations they’re performing. Engaging illustrations keep kids coming back for more, even as they grapple with some of the most rigorous math problems available anywhere.
Engaging Curriculum
Using our well-developed curriculum, our wizards will become adept at solving challenging math problems. The curriculum is broken into 4 key parts:
Our assignments will include word problems, interactive puzzles, and skill drill games with detailed solutions.
Problem Solving Techniques
Our key focus is on teaching problem-solving techniques by connecting the dots. We help kids in understanding the core concepts so that they can breakdown complex problems into smaller, solvable dots and we encourage them to make connections between these dots. This helps in building a foundation not only for advanced math and science but also for handling real-life problems.
Challenging problems and puzzles
Our philosophy is to train kids by providing them with appropriate challenges to foster critical thinking. We assess students based on their skills (not on their school grades) so that we can help develop the right set of skills for them to succeed.
Learn to compete
We have a team of highly experienced and award-winning teachers, engineers, technologists and HR experts coaching the students. We want kids to excel through the real-life association of concepts taught in class. These selfless educators would like kids to express themselves on international platforms. We provide numerous opportunities for students to compete nationally and internationally.
Grade 1 Concept Review
We will review key grade 1 concepts to bring all students to the same level using engaging puzzles and assignments. The goal of these sessions will be to build good problem-solving habits.
Place Value
Digits, ones, tens, hundreds, breaking and regrouping, adding and subtracting 1, 10, or 100.
Comparing
The number line, distance, consecutive numbers, using < and >, ordering numbers.
Addition
Sums, place value strategies, counting up, adding and taking away, doubles, making 10's and 100's, friendly sums.
Subtraction
Place value strategies, using addition, finding a difference, counting up, subtracting then adding, subtracting all at once, and subtracting in parts.
Expressions
Evaluating expressions, using parentheses, working with symbols, simplifying, and solving equations.
Problem Solving - A
Guessing and checking, working backwards, drawing a picture, finding useful information.
Measurement
The measurement chapter only includes measuring length, and includes using a ruler, estimation, customary and metric units, conversions, mixed measures, and adding and subtracting.
Strategies
Rearranging addition and subtraction, canceling, almost canceling, subtracting everything at once, using parentheses, and skip-counting.
Odds & Evens
Odds and evens, doubling, halving, addition and subtraction patterns, working with more than two numbers, and puzzles involving crossings, coins, checkerboards, and graphs.
Big Numbers
Thousands, millions and larger place values. Reading, writing, adding, subtracting, comparing, and estimating with big numbers.
Algorithms
Stacking addition with regrouping, adding more than two numbers at a time, stacking subtraction with breaking, and solving cryptarithms.
Problem Solving - B
Staying organized, finding and using patterns, solving simpler problems, eliminating choices, and using manipulatives.
